Who are we?

In 1940, Carl Stewart began working at Tennessee Can Company in Fayetteville, TN; learning first how to re-tin milk cans for Bordon and Kraft. Over the next decade, he developed superior skills in the design and lay-out of sheet metal. During this time, he was also a sheet metal worker at A.E.D.C. He eventually used his sheet metal skills to begin a side job of fabricating duct work for heating and air conditioning systems. This was the beginning of what has evolved with Stewart Companies.

In 1960, Carl started his Stewart Sheet Metal business. His services included central heating and air conditioning, duct work fabrication and installation, and specialized sheet metal design. He later added guttering and other home improvement services. His sons, Jim and Richard, helped on weekends and during the summers while they were in school, learning the skills themselves.

In the early 1970’s Richard continued to work in the business while he was in college. After graduating from Austin Peay State University and accepting a teaching and coaching job in Winchester, Tennessee, Richard continued to work in business on weekends and during summer breaks. In 1978, he purchased the first gutter machine to operate in Franklin County.

In the early 1980’s, partially due to Carl’s failing health, Stewart Sheet Metal was sold; however, it wasn’t long before the family reorganized and recreated the business with a new focus and a new name. Stewart Aluminum Company transitioned from central heat and air and duct systems to exterior siding and trim installation. In 1983, the business employed two young brothers, Steeve and Kenny Dunn, who became master’s of the trade and who still work with the Stewart’s today. Though Carl passed away in 1986, Richard continued to operate Stewart Aluminum Company and began teaching two of his sons, Kyle and Eric, to carry on the business. Over the years, the business grew and expanded to include more services like replacement windows and patio covers. For a while they also operated a vinyl distributorship known as Stewart Building Products. Eric made the decision to pursue other career opportunities. Kyle got a degree in construction management from M.T.S.U. and worked for about 15 years as a firefighter and residential builder, all while continuing to work in the family business as time allowed. Eventually the multiple facets of the business were combined in one operation and is now known as Stewart Companies.

In 2020 when Kyle decided to expand the company he hired a project manager, Darian Emberton, to assist in all fiber cement responsibilities. As well as hiring helping hands to assist his pre-existing crew and crews for all offered trades.

In 2021 he assumed full responsibility of Stewart Companies and hired Debra West, our office manager to help with scheduling and the books. She’s the sweet, happy voice you hear when you call the office.

In 2022 he hired Clay Sherrill to assist in operation coordination. We now have a team ready to assist all of our customers with the best service from beginning to end, while installing some of the highest quality products on their homes.

We separate ourselves from our competitors by offering a one stop shop to all of your exterior needs by offering a wide range of exterior remodeling services including fiber cement/James Hardie siding and trim, vinyl siding, railing, decking, patio covers and carports, three-season and screen rooms, and more.
